Working Together Towards Stability
The KATA program is CHF’s ground breaking, bottom-up program that is transforming the lives of thousands of Haitians. This program is a 4-year, $81 million dollar program aims to advance stability. The KATA program is financed by the United States Agency for International Development and is focused on the five regional areas of Petit Goave, Port au Prince, Saint Marc, Gonaives and Cap Haitian.
Drawing on the individual enterprise and creativity that can be seen everyday in the markets and streets, KATA advances stability through the creation of immediate and durable jobs through infrastructure development and maintenance, as well as through workforce development and entrepreneurship programs.
KATA, which stands for “Konbit Ak Tet Ansanm” in Haitian Creole, is based on the principle of working together to achieve a common goal. Thus, the program focuses on the engagement and collaboration of all of its partners: all levels of the Haitian government, the informal and formal private sector, and the communities which are at the core of the program. Together, these stakeholders identify, prioritize, implement and maintain infrastructure and employment generation projects. The word "KATA" also signifies a Haitian drumbeat. Therefore, KATA also symbolizes the positive rhythm of change that the program is bringing to Haiti.
The KATA program is based on a transparent and community driven process that results in a high level of commitment and investment from the participating partners and communities. It is an inclusive process that builds productive bridges amongst the participants.
KATA is designed to:
- Enable access to economic opportunities that provide people with dignity, income and the chance to contribute to the economic development of their country
- Enhance the government's ability to effectively respond to the needs of its constituents
- Provide improved access to capital, market linkages and investments for Haiti's micro, small and medium enterprises
- Increase access to social and productive infrastructure.
