Psychosocial Support and Service Delivery
Many of the areas in which CHF International works are recovering from or in the midst of conflict. Having lived through violence, many individuals come away with feelings of fear, anguish, distrust, despair and uncertainty that prevent them from assuming normal lives. CHF International works with such communities to reduce the emotional suffering caused by violence, reconstruct social ties, and re-establish a social, familiar and communitarian environment in which individuals can feel safe.
CHF’s psychosocial interventions are activities that promote people’s ability to effectively and satisfactorily meet the demands in their lives through healthy and rewarding social relations and interactions, effectively deal with and overcome the adversities which they face in their lives, and continue to develop psychologically and socially throughout their lifespan.
In Kenya and Rwanda, we are working with orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) that have suffered the loss of a parent or loved one as a result of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Our programs provide OVC with individual psychosocial support and group activities—such as sports, drama and music—that help form networks of support.
In addition to providing psychosocial support and health care to OVC, our programs in Kenya and Rwanda are strengthening the ability of organizations to provide sustained HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention and care services. These services include voluntary counseling and testing and provision of palliative care and antiretroviral therapy, among others.
