Clean Water & Sanitation

Numerous studies have demonstrated that good health is integral to economic growth. An individual’s physical health can dramatically impact their ability to earn a steady income and to receive an uninterrupted education, among other things.

Recognizing this, CHF International makes it a priority to integrate health and sanitation measures into our programming, whether the initiative is designed to provide critical infrastructure or assist families in rebuilding in post-disaster environments.

In Ethiopia, we are increasing access to safe water and teaching the importance of water treatment and sanitation so that otherwise healthy individuals do not become susceptible to water-borne diseases.

In Indonesia, we are rebuilding markets that were destroyed by the 2004 tsunami, but instead of rebuilding markets as they originally were, we are building back better with an approach that centers on health. Markets are now equipped with proper draining, fresh water taps, and even public health posts, and vendors are trained in health and hygiene practices.

Our focus on sanitation is not limited to awareness, alone. Our water infrastructure projects, such as access to wells, latrines, and drainage systems, are critical in our efforts to creating healthier environments.
