Helping Communities to Respond and Recover from Disaster
In August 2007, CHF International responded to a devastating earthquake that destroyed more than 90,000 homes in the Ica province of Peru. CHF worked with rural communities to help them to rebuild homes, latrines and clinics, and provided grants to enable individuals to begin working again.
CHF International’s work in Peru has also focused on assisting indigenous and other vulnerable communities. In Cajamarca, the second poorest area in Peru, CHF created a local Peruvian microfinance institution, PROGRESO, which focuses on the housing needs of low-income residents.
